This session will explore the fundamental differences between empathy and sympathy, especially in the context of leadership. While sympathy often arises from a place of observation and distance, true empathy is rooted in perspective-taking and emotional attunement. Leaders who practice empathy are able to foster trust, create psychological safety, and lead from a place of shared understanding — outcomes sympathy alone cannot achieve.
We’re inviting speakers to anchor their talk around one or more of the following key themes:
✅ Empathy as a Tool for Psychological Safety
– How active empathy in leadership builds trust, emotional resilience, and healthy team dynamics.
✅ The Limits of Sympathy and When It's Misused
– Understanding how well-meaning expressions of pity can unintentionally disconnect or disempower others.
✅ Distinguishing and Applying Each in Real Time
– How to recognize whether a moment calls for empathy, sympathy, or something else—and how to respond with clarity and intention.
